Framing to suit your interior décor enables you to tie together your artwork to your interior colour palette. However this only works truly well when your artwork has been chosen with your decor in mind. As a framer my fidelity is always to the artwork first. Every design I create draws out colours and textures from the artwork itself, whilst still ensuring that the artwork is always the focus. Over my 19 years as a custom framer, when clients have asked me to frame something to match their room rather than their artwork, the results are always less than ideal. The frame ends up not extending the artwork, and not continuing its visual story. Here’s how to avoid that mistake.

Choosing artwork to work with your new interior decor

There are two ways in which framing to your décor can work and the first is choosing an artwork or print that has similar colours to those of your new room. By picking an artwork that directly contains similar colours, you know that a great framing design will extend those colours thus connecting to your decor scheme.

What if I already have an artwork and it’s different?

If you already have an artwork and it introduces an additional colour into your room then you can introduce one of the dominant colours with added scatter cushions, a vase or other soft furnishings. Provided they still are harmonious with the overall colour scheme

Connection is key

The key is that there MUST be a connection in order for the new artwork to fit in well. Trying to frame an incompatible artwork to a room is like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole – it simply doesn’t work!
